Installation

WINDOWS:

S-Gear uses the Windows MSI installation system.  The Microsoft FixIt support tool can be used to automatically diagnose and fix common problems with installation or uninstallation of Windows applications.

Click the 'Run Now' button to install the tool.  Follow the instructions and select S-Gear when you have the opportunity to choose which application you would like to troubleshoot.

MAC:

If you are runnign MAC OS X 10.6.8 and you encounter the  error when running the installer, please try applying the following update from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1512

If you are having any other problem installing S-Gear on your MAC, please send us a message via the contact page.

To help diagnose installation problems on the MAC, we may ask you to re-install S-Gear with logging enabled:

  1. Run the S-Gear installer, do not press Continue
  2. Press CMD-L on your keyboard to open an install logging window
  3. In the drop-down menu on the left, select 'Show All Logs'
  4. Continue with the S-Gear installation
  5. Before closing the installer, click the SAVE icon on the right to save the log to a file

Make sure you have added the S-Gear VST folders to the list of folders scanned by your DAW.

The S-Gear installer will install the S-Gear VST plug-in to the following folders:
C:\Program Files\Scuffham Amps\S-Gear_VST\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Scuffham Amps\S-Gear_VST\ (32bit plugin on a 64bit machine)

Alternatively you can copy the VST DLL to a custom VST folder scanned by your DAW.  If you choose to copy the DLL, remember to update any copies when you install a new version of S-Gear.

Before upgrading from S-GEAR v1 to S-GEAR v2, please ready the corresponding support document:

apple tiny MAC v1-v2 Upgrade notes.
win tiny Windows v1-V2 Upgrade notes.

Note: It is possible to run S-GEAR v1 and v2 side-by-side on your machine, however there are some special considerations.  If you have v1 and v2 installed side by side on your Windows machine, and you wish to uninstall one of them, you must first uninstall both versions, then reinstall one of them. If you do not follow these steps you may end up with an incomplete S-Gear installation, showing the license error screen when you try to run the software.
