Due to a publisher certificate update, some versions of the S-GEAR installer may be blocked from running on Windows 10 machines. During install or uninstall, a security warning will give an error message such as:
"The publisher has been blocked from running software on your machine"
The following versions of S-GEAR may be affected: v2.53, v2.57 and v2.60. Please note that v2.60 has since been updated with a new certificate.
To work around the problem it is necessary to use the local 'Adminitrator' account on your Windows 10 machine. By default the 'Adminitrator' account is disabled. There are two methods by which you can enable or disable this account.
1. Using the Command Prompt to enable administrator:
From the Windows start menu:
- Scroll down the list of applications to find the 'Windows System' folder
- Locate the 'Command Prompt' application, right click and select 'Run as administrator' from the 'More' menu.
In the command window, enter the following to enable administrator account:
net user administrator /active:yes
To disable the administrator account, enter:
net user administrator /active:no
Now sign-out of your user account and sign-in using the local admnistrator account. Complete the S-GEAR install/uninstall operation as necessary.
2. Using 'Local Users and Groups' administrator tool lusrmgr.exe:
Hold down the Windows key while pressing 'R' to bring up the Run dialog box.
Type 'lusrmgr.msc' and press enter.
Uncheck 'Account is disabled'
You can now sign-out of your user account and sign-in using the local administrator account. Complete the S-GEAR install/uninstall operation as necessary.
For security reasons, it is recommended to disable the local administrator account once you are done.
